How to choose the right class for you.
So many options, how do you pick? If you feel overwhelmed choosing the right class or event, keep reading.
Western Roots’ mission is to create lifetime dancers. A lifetime dancer has their skills ready like a finely tuned tool, available whenever the occasion calls. How do you get there? A solid foundation and repetition.
Start Here: Country Swing 101
I recommend the 4-week Beginner Swing course as the best way to build your foundation. Held in our studio inside Prime Performance & Physio, it teaches the mechanics of country swing through thorough, patient demonstrations and drills designed to help you absorb and retain what you learn. Each class builds on the last, so you leave with comprehension, muscle memory, and rhythm.

It’s perfect if you’ve never danced or taken a class before. If you’ve dabbled, it’s also a great place to spot and correct bad habits. Sign up for Country Swing 101 →
Level Up: Country Swing 201
This course is for dancers who have finished Country Swing 101, or who have taken classes with Western Roots for two or more months at the Westerner or our drop-in class. You’ll need to know the basic step, which we teach at every Adult Swing lesson and drop-in class. I ask for two months of classes so the basic step is on autopilot by the time you start.
Sign up if you’re comfortable with the basic steps and turns and ready for a faster pace and snazzier moves. Sign up for Country Swing 201 →
Busy Schedule? Try Drop-In Tuesdays
Can’t commit to a course? Drop-In Tuesdays are a two-hour session in our small studio. The first hour covers the basics and then moves into a combo. The second hour is for practice and socializing. Our instructors are there to answer questions, but the dance floor is yours to perfect a move, work on a concept, or just play.
These are also great for practicing the combos taught at Adult Swing.
Love Live Music? Adult Swing Wednesdays at the Westerner
Wednesdays are the perfect date night and social mixer, and a chance to learn to dance to country music. Live band nights reach another level when you know the western dances that are staples of any honky-tonk. We rotate through country swing, two-step, waltz, and cowboy cha-cha, with the best local bands and visiting acts passing through.
Each night starts with 30 minutes of beginner instruction, followed by 30 minutes of intermediate instruction. Then enjoy two hours of live music. We wrap up at 10:00pm so you’re rested and ready to dance again when the weekend comes. 21+ only.
